Floor plan of Woods Road by Charles P. Winter, renovated by Cookfox
The bespoke dining table was designed by architect Belinda George and crafted using totara timber gifted by the client’s brother. It was made by the same furniture maker who was commissioned by the client’s mother to make a dining table many decades ago.
A long bench seat is built into the rear wall of the living room, allowing for various seating configurations and a relaxed atmosphere.
The roof was lifted and insulated during the renovation, and the original Douglas fir floors were kept and patched where needed. The oversized thermal windows also regulate the temperature.
The airy feeling is accentuated by painted white walls and white ceramic roof tiles that are visible on the ceiling. The tile motif was adapted from Portuguese colonial architecture and remains prominent in the region. The custom two-sided sofa is by Atelier Branco.
Inside, two long benches allow occupants to lay comfortably along each side. A triangular wall of glass sits at one end, framing views of the surrounding landscape.
Two Swiss designers breathe new life into retired gondolas by turning them into sleek, customizable saunas. The interiors are gutted, and the exteriors receive a brand-new paint job—in any color of your choice.
