In Hanna Bui’s Sausalito houseboat, designed by architect Craig Steely, sea creatures seen through an enormous back window animate bay views. Walls of plank siding dry out easily if they get damp, and different levels of bleached oak floors demarcate living areas and a sunken kitchen. Red Line Roset Togo sofas are paired with a suspended bamboo seat.

“The combination of clean and modern lines with a touch of warmth creates a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere,” says Breden. “Having the entertaining space on one floor allows for easy interaction and socializing, while the separation of bedrooms on different levels provides privacy and personal space for everyone in the household.”

An enormous freestanding bath in the spa-like master en-suite shares the same treetop views as the bedroom.

The primary bedroom suite on the top floor overlooks the treetops through large windows, giving it the sense of a luxurious retreat. The white oak timber floors and gallery-like white walls enhance this atmosphere.

Amy and Tomasz's cat Gustavo "Gus" hangs out in the dining nook. "They weren't super concerned about having a huge dining table," says Sims, "but we wanted to give them some dedicated space for dining." It is now one of Amy's favorite places in the home.
