The timber-clad tiny home that Manta North designed for a family farm in Germany connects to its pastoral landscape, living larger than its 516 square feet of interior space.

In the lounge, a Theatre Two-Seater sofa joins two U-Turn Swivel Chairs, all from Design Within Reach. The rug is by Scott Group.

The property has been in Barensfeld's family since the 1970s.

Inside, Metropolitan armchairs by B&B Italia and Artek stools flank a Morsø stove. The Flor rug tiles are arranged in a custom pattern.

Elsie’s grandmother crafted the wool wall art that hangs at the end of the space, where Elsie stashes her fabrics and Birdie Lou, the couple’s daughter, plays with toys.

In turning the second level of the garage behind their duplex into a multifunctional workspace without breaking the bank, Kyle Huberty relied on friends, family, and the community at large.

“We wanted to make it feel like a surf shack. It was important to us to have a low-key, slow, easy lifestyle,” Kyle says.

The original home was converted into a bedroom level, and given a second-story addition and roof deck. The dark exterior color, a charcoal-eggplant hue, lets the landscape colors stand out in contrast. “The existing house roof became the roof deck,” says Rogers. “And then I just shifted over the addition so that it floated over the landscape.”

There are easy lines of sight between the main floor and the upper level.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom home sits on an 8,990-square-foot lot surrounded by tall trees that provide privacy.

The cabin, comprised of just wood and glass, feels especially cozy when the stove is lit.

The couple’s bedroom features a platform bed designed and built by designer Brandon Jørgensen, along with a steel bench and a leather-and-brass chair, both from Erin Martin Design. The painting is by L.A. artist Donnie Molls, while the 3-Squared floor lamp is by Blackman Cruz. “In the morning, we take turns going down to get coffee,” says Buttons. “And then we lie in bed and read, looking at the trees. It’s heaven.”

Local carpenters built the furnishings.
