The principal bathroom is bathed with natural light and a warm burnt-orange palette.

"Each site visit would result in a joyous bushwhack through the thick rhododendron forest to the back kettle ponds," Mac says. "After, we would walk out to the front meadow [to] get a sense of how to engage the house with the landscape and create a symbiotic relationship between the two."

The interior glows like a lantern at night, as does the new backyard pool.

The communal lodge features six nearly identical bedrooms alongside an interior made of exposed concrete, flooring, steel, and brass.

An entrance hall leads to the living/dining area, where the architects used old bricks to make a fireplace, stairs, and built-in benches feel as though they were always there.

Two of the three units share a main entrance and all three units make use of communal outdoor spaces woven between the house and the charismatic oak trees.

The entire living space is able to be opened up so it appears to sit beneath a canopy.

After the home was assembled, a local contractor built the outdoor concrete patio and barbecue on site.

The house faces the east, so in the evening, sunsets can be enjoyed from the roof terrace but the view of the city below is visible from nearly every room in the house.

When Casa Nube was under construction, Tom worried that it would be difficult to get used to the scale of the house, especially the 14' ceilings, after living in Brooklyn.

The house appears to be a little cabin in the woods, hidden among the trees.
