The stairs are one of the best parts of the renovation and were assembled on-site, stretching from basement to the top floor.

At the entry, the staircase takes on a sculptural quality and integrates a built-in bench. On the right, the home’s preserved brick is revealed. On the left, a window captures the exterior brick of a neighbor. “We created these moments where the inside and the outside start to blend together,” says Radutny.

The main entry flows into the living room, which now accesses the outdoor terrace via the door to the left.

The Splinter Creek model house is a modern rendition of the classic dogtrot. Its materials were inspired by agrarian structures common to the area, and feature informal, simple timber-framed structures characterized by natural light and a mindful sense of place.

With the same materials that were used originally—like the mahogany and Douglas fir in the living room—Dominick and Scott sensitively restored the interior. Knoll fabrics cover the vintage Paul McCobb stools.

The kitchen cabinets, designed by Taku and built by Osamu Hironaga, hold dishes from Taku’s Hasami porcelain line, which is produced in Nagasaki.
