Moss-covered rocks and twisted tree trunks give the landscape a fairyland-like quality.

In between the guest suites, there are structures for storage, maintenance and a transit waiting suite, all connected with terraced landscape pockets and courtyards.

The living room is the largest and brightest space of the home. A bisecting staircase leads to the bedroom, kitchen, and living/dining room. As per the client’s desire for privacy and discretion, the furnishings have been staged by Etel Design.

Sutherland removed the drop ceiling to cabin’s structural wood beams—between which she carefully hid the conduits for the Juno track lights. The family plays games and does puzzles at the picnic table, which is a relic from the original owners.

When staying in one of the prefabricated chalets at Whitepod Eco-Luxury Hotel in Monthey, Switzerland, ski trips are prefaced by breakfasts that are delivered daily via a 100% electric Land Rover Defender food truck. Drawing power from a hydroelectric turbine, the zinc-roofed structures are energy self-sufficient.

A rotating fireplace, a glazed facade, and a cozy sauna complete this wonderful woodland retreat.

A small, open wardrobe space is also located on the second floor, next to the editing studio and the raised loft bedroom.

The house was fabricated at a facility 30 minutes away and then assembled on-site.

While rooms are often designed to have islands of furniture, with a walking aisle around the perimeter, here the furniture is placed around the edges at a comfortable distance.

“We bought the land not knowing what we could build or where. It’s off by itself and pretty isolated,” says Jeff.

Comprising 11 modules, this green-roofed prefab was built in 90 days in a factory near São Paulo and then transported to the site in three shipments on flatbed trucks.

For Mount Washington Residence, McBride Architects use prefabrication to save on costs while going big on functionality and style.

The oak cabinet in the living room was another secondhand find. “It had the exact measurements of the wall,” says Annemie. “We just needed to hang it.” The throw blanket is from La Femme Garniture while the pillows and pendants are custom.
