The home takes the form of two volumes that slide past each other. The front door leads directly to the center of the home, which connects to the both the entrance courtyard and the rear pool area, dissolving the boundaries between interior and exterior space.

Cox says he and Persin “went on an ipe run” after committing to the material for the deck, using it to build the slatted fence around the backyard. Rainbow Warrior New Zealand flax, a perennial, complements the material, while off-the-shelf pavers helped keep costs down.

A large window stretches along the rear wall, adding additional natural light. New appliances are among the only changes made by the current homeowners, who have lived here since 2000.

A look at the living room, which is situated at the front of the home and features a large window overlooking the surrounding water views. Natural wood beams run directly beneath the skylight.

The home was inspired by Japanese and Hawaiian architecture, and it features a trove of original details, including the stone fireplace and oak flooring in the living room. Clerestory windows top the sliding doors which lead to a large, covered patio.

Sliding glass doors open the living room to the covered, stone-paved patio in the backyard. A skylight brightens up the open-air space, which caters to easy entertaining.

In contrast to the neutral palette found throughout the home, the kitchen features the original, cheerful color combination of turquoise, avocado green, and yellow. Custom cabinetry and built-in shelving offer ample storage, while long counters provide plenty of room for meal prep.

All three bathrooms have been renovated to accommodate modern-day living. This one comes with an oversized shower and double vanity.

An office is located near one of the far corners of the home, offering a quiet space to work.
