Alexandrine discovered the 18th-century Italian painting at a local antique shop even though the paintwork required restoration. The floors, walls, and ceiling of the mezzanine are all clad in clear-coated fir plywood panels. To respect Montreal city bylaws, the mezzanine was limited to 40% of the area of the level below.

The new mezzanine’s envelope responds to the climate in Quebec. It’s designed to offer the highest thermal insulation performance to effectively reduce heat loss during the wintertime.

They also added a floating teak shelf from Semihandmade, which was a pretty close match to the Lauan wood paneling in the rest of the house.

The bathroom mirrors the same materials, colors, and design principles as the rest of the building.
