The main living area is on the second floor in an open double-height space where the ceiling peaks at 15 feet under an angled roof. It contains an airy kitchen/dining area and a living room. A hallway leads to the primary bedroom, and a loft contains a bedroom for their kids. The ground floor has an apartment they rent to local teachers.
On the main floor, custom sliders by Oakridge Windows & Doors open to a table and chairs designed by Paquette and built by Conrad Contracting. The wood paneling on the walls was salvaged from the original structure and resawn; each piece was scuffed with fine sandpaper and coated with Projectol.
In the living room, soft-hued seating arranged in a circle is perfect for entertaining. On the far wall, Sunrise Over the Hudson, by Erik Koeppel, competes with the stunning scenery outside. “Charlie was interested in skewered views, like looking straight up at the sky and then out to the woods,” says Rick.
It’s what’s underneath the vintage-chic design that really takes this suite to modern heights: a Trane Split System XL17i heat pump and Trane 5 Ton 14 SEER XR14 Single Stage heat pump; a Trane CleanEffects II XL1050 Whole House air cleaner, the Trane Two Stage Hyperion Communicating air handler; Trane energy recovery ventilators; and a Trane Comfortlink thermostat to seamlessly control the whole system.
