A complex created by designer Bob Butler on 60 rural acres in Fairview, Tennessee, includes a cabin, a renovated farmhouse, a tree house, and a home for Bob and his partner, Melody Geer. The sprawling property is just what the couple sought—an antidote to their busy lives in Nashville.

Located in Hobart, Tasmania, Taroona House is a 2,600-square-foot residence built using a timber prefab building system developed by architecture firm Archier.

Candour is a prefab building system and a tool to customize building components within that system—including walls, floors, facades, and roofs—with a proprietary CAD plug-in. Users of the software can draft a design, determine if it’s feasible, and price it all in one day. Designs are built at Candour’s manufacturing facility in Sunshine, Melbourne.

Masa Arquitectos designed this minimalist house in Montevideo, Uruguay, for a young family on a tight budget who wanted to do most of the carpentry themselves.

Now, there are sightlines from the entry to the backyard. The dining table, surrounded by Wegner Wishbone chairs, is by Campagna, a Portland-based design studio.

A midcentury-style walnut screen separates the entry from the living room, yet allows connection with its permeability.

The home is nestled in a stand of cedar, pine, and Douglas fir trees. The family relocated a smaller cabin to make room for their new retreat, and they plan to convert the original structure into a game room for the kids.

An upstairs desk can provide a place for Jen’s work or their kids’ homework. When not in use, it disappears into the wall.

Aegean Pool House’s expansive roof structure shelters the indoor/outdoor living spaces beneath it. A freestanding stone fireplace anchors the west side of the living and dining area.

This area is made for coffee, wine, and other beverage needs, complete with drawers for equipment. A Danby Silhouette Beverage center sets the scene.
