"It's simple, yet it's expressive,” Scardulla says. “We don't like excesses. We don't like when you enter a space, and everything is immediately declared, everything is clear. We like discovery and complexity. That's why we love that you get there and you get to the door, and you have one perception, then you enter and get another, step down, and have a new perception, and so on. You take the bed down and get a new perception again."

Many architects don't practice with their hands, they say, outside of models made at university. "When they start working, they don't know how things are done. Architects need to start from scratch because when they're on-site, they'll know how to solve problems."

Divided master bedroom and bathroom

Instead of a basic doorway between the master bedroom and bath, we designed a divider wall that visually enlarges the space.

The all-wood seasonal guest house is void of drywall and insulation. The exterior framing was left exposed, and interior walls are constructed of birch plywood.

The living room’s corner exposure intentionally highlights dramatic views of the water and forest. “The landscape becomes the art on the walls,” says Morris.

While wood finishes and paneling dominate the home’s interior, color and texture are introduced through the kitchen’s stone and tile selections.

The units feature radiant floor heating that can be controlled through integrated smart home devices.

Although the units come with aluminum cladding by default, CABN offers to different materials at additional cost.
