Marie Saldivar’s experimental metal-clad dwelling is the perfect place to host family—and proof of concept for her new prefab company.

The art studio space contains a writing desk and plenty of storage via built-in maple shelving, also by Island Custom Woodworks. T

The sleeping area is framed with custom maple casework crafted by local Lopez Island company, Island Custom Woodworks. The brass cabinet pulls are from Schoolhouse, and the wall lamp is by Normann Copenhagen.

In the living area, a wood stove from Danish company Morso warms the space. The steel fireplace surround was crafted in Mount Vernon, Washington, and large aluminum-clad pine windows frame the exterior environment. The flooring is maple.

In the bathroom, a thin pane of glass separates the shower; an Aquaplane sink by Lacava hovers above a built-in vanity illuminated by a lean Adelphi light by Oxygen Lighting; and blue-green glass penny tiles by Terra Verre decorate the floor. The absence of a door, combined with windows on two sides, makes the bathroom feel like a continuation of the overall space.

The couple chose polished concrete throughout the home to contrast alongside more textural timber. The concrete has thermal heating below it to stay warm in the winter.

This wooden staircase doubles as kitchen shelving in the English designer's home. Tyler hired David Restorick, a furniture maker and friend, to build a staircase that doubles as display space for Tyler's vast collection of colorful cookware.
