The bathroom's sauna-like interior includes a deep Toto bathtub—characteristic of traditional Japanese baths. The wooden hiba paneling, chosen because it is more water resistant than hinoki, is specific to the Northern Aomori region of Japan.

An opaque glass wall which extends the length of the tub, allows filtered light into the bath space. All white elements allow the light to reflect, creating a bright interior.

One of the bathrooms on the second floor contrasts crisp white tile on the walls with geometric blue tile on the floor.

The new master bathroom features a large soaking tub clad in Carrera marble tile from Daltile. A new Milgard window highlights southern city views.

The master bedroom has an ensuite, which was updated during the renovation. The pale green tiles are Dandelion by Swedish designers Claesson Koivisto Rune for Marrakech Design.

VOLA towel-warming rails climb the wall next to a custom-designed soaking tub crafted in Japan out of hinoki wood, or Japanese cypress.

The master bathroom is filled with colorful textiles and quirky art.

The couple created a built-in dinette, with an adjustable table, that converts to a queen-size bed.

Plywood board covers almost the entire interior of the van. “The construction process involved thinking of solutions for a space with many corners and curves,” recalls Andrade. “Challenges make things interesting, so this was my favourite part of the project.”

The Dodo Van has seats for the transport of up to six people. The side entrance leads directly to the kitchenette area behind the driver's seat.
