A custom maple table by Duff & Co. serves as a work-from-home hub or a place for the family to gather around and work on a puzzle—that isn't the kitchen table. The south-facing nook gets plenty of natural light, even on the gloomiest of Pacific Northwest days.

The addition was designed with overhangs—and foot-thick insulation—to keep the interiors naturally cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

The clients loved the sound of rainwater splashing onto the rock outcropping and didn't want to lose it, so the design team rigged up a spout that deposits water at the right place to accentuate the sounds the clients love. They then had the idea to collect and recycle the water back on the roof so that the tonal experience can be enjoyed in the dry summers as well.

Designed by Buff, Straub, & Hensman, this landmark 1954 home has a massive concrete fireplace, an interior Japanese garden, and a bridge leading down to a series of ponds.

Set on a steep, forested hillside, Saul Zaik’s 1961 residence evokes a tree house with two wings connected by a series of cantilevered decks and a glass pavilion.

The sauna features its own entrance next to an outdoor shower. The sauna heater is from Harvia, a company based in Finland.

The dining area features a built-in bench and table, both crafted by Island Custom Woodworks.

The food prep area sits adjacent to a small dining area in the middle structure of the three. Black Richlite countertops complement a white tile backsplash and maple cabinetry. The induction cooktop is from Bosch and the faucet is Grohe.

The art studio space contains a writing desk and plenty of storage via built-in maple shelving, also by Island Custom Woodworks. T

An opening in a Cor-Ten steel—clad wall on the terrace frames the Paola Lenti chaise longue.
