Parota wood continues in the spacious kitchen. Marisa and Christopher found the blue tile that runs throughout the home on a trip to León, Mexico. "It called out to us," says Christopher. Festooned with small stars, its tone matches the color of the ocean perfectly.

“To keep the lofted structure of the North Building, we developed a unique stair design rather than a ladder so that guests could safely go up and down,” says designer Nicole Hollis of the staggered treads.

A custom built-in dresser and wardrobe optimize storage in the main bedroom.

Built-in bookcases in the living room echo the birch ply of the kitchen cabinetry.

The brick plinth surround of the fireplace gave the family terrier a dedicated bed.

The glassed-in kitchen, which connects to a dry garden in the center of the home, makes use of earthy materials such as parota wood for the millwork, black granite with leather finish for the countertops, and gray cantera stone floors. The pendants are by David Pompa, while the refrigerator is from Whirlpool and the dishwasher from LG.

Marc and John filled much of the home with artwork and furniture by local creators. In the living room, Colima chairs and a Chihuahua coffee table, both by Mérida design studio Comité de Proyectos, accompany a Kubiko sofa from Marbol.

The home is meant to take advantage of its warm and sunny environs. The living room features two walls of glass. One overlooks the dry garden, and the other opens into a courtyard with a jungle garden and a pool that tucks into an archway in the front of the pink casita.

The fittings are from Interceramic, while the light fixtures are from LEDS C4.

In the primary suite, a walk-in closet leads to a moody bathroom with a concrete sink.

In the dining room, which connects to an addition via a 10-foot-tall cased opening, a vintage pedestal table and hutch complement C side chairs by Chuch Estudio.

The entrance to the home is through a timber-clad passageway, which connects the different spaces, which are all under one roof. Over time, the Canadian cedar timber cladding will develop a silver patina and the built form will dissolve further into the landscape.
