The high ceilings in the original gymnasium enabled the architects to introduce a mezzanine floor into the volume to foster privacy for the bedrooms. The finished home is 2,475 square feet.

Stairway
Built to replace a traditional rectangular stairway, the curving open-riser staircase features extra-wide black treads that pop against white guardrails.
The curving staircase captures changing light at different times of day.
A view from the entryway to the open-plan living and dining room. All finishes, furnishings, and millwork were replaced for the renovation.

The central staircase connects all three floors of the 7,000-square-foot Toronto townhouse.
Different flooring materials add rich textural detail to the home. The main floor features pewter-toned hardwood, while the second and third floors feature sand-colored hardwood. Bianco marble features in the foyer and the kitchen floors and island.
Smooth concrete flooring offsets the verticality of the timber boards that cover the interior and exterior walls.
The stairs are one of the best parts of the renovation and were assembled on-site, stretching from basement to the top floor.
With a stairway placed to the left of the entryway, it almost appears as if the carport (where a Genesis GV80 is parked) is floating
Preproduction model with optional features shown.
Before: Very little was changed about the rear façade in the remodel.
