In the living room, cork flooring meets a fir staircase. The lofted family room features a chair from the Danish Design Store and a Grasshopper floor lamp by Greta Grossman for Gubi.

Paint was removed from the original brick walls wherever possible, leaving an irregular patina. The smooth, clean finish of the new walls contrasts with the color and texture of the bricks.

The Japanese pantry in the kitchen is by Shibui Kotto.

Cheerful, upbeat colors have been chosen for the kids’ bedroom and bathroom.

Here, the washbasin is by Ceramica Globo, the Life taps are by Bellosta, and the wall lamp is by Lampe Gras (DCW Editions). The mirror has been customized for this home.

Even in the bathrooms, there are moments of bright color: a yellow faucet, a pink and yellow vanity, a yellow towel heater. The mosaic tile on the floor is of a different color than that of the walls, but together they create a pleasing backdrop for the bolder tones in the small room.

All the tapware is by Sussex Scala, and the finish is Living Rustic Bronze.

Strongly contrasting colors were used to differentiate bedrooms and bathrooms. The master bath is awash in reddish hues with a custom freestanding vanity by Studio Bright.

The Amelie bathtub from Rogerseller is meant to be an elegant, contemporary take on a claw-foot tub.

Color-blocked custom cabinets make for a delightful surprise.

The new color palette combines a medley of hues, including mustard, mint, rusty orange, and lavender. The bathroom floor, tiled with oversized flowers, is paired with a plaid shower curtain. The client encouraged the firm to stretch here: “I think we originally had something with a bit less color, but she was always pushing us,” says Merrill. “It was so fun.”

The shared kids’ bath features a tile terrazzo floor, soaking tub, and Brodware taps. The clerestory window lets in northern light without compromising privacy.

In total, the home offers three-and-a-half bathrooms. Each of the guest bathrooms are finished in the brightly colored tile.
