The spacious, covered deck is ready for anything. “From snowstorms to eclipse, we can play here,” says Adair. It’s turned into a big gathering space for their community; sometimes the family hosts film screenings en plein air.
There’s even a sense of play in the entryway: Bocci lights are installed in the layout of the Orion constellation.
Adair and Kopp commissioned the metal fabricator who did the railings to create the monkey-bar rungs that line the hallway, powder-coated in seafoam green. Rings can attach to the monkey bars to give the boys a different type of challenge.
Adding storage under the new stair maximizes the kitchen's footprint. Hemlock wood on the stair was stained to complement the casework. The faucet is from Brizo and the green backsplash tile is Heath.
The kitchen underwent the most dramatic change, being relocated to the back of the house adjacent to the living room. White Oak floors and casework and new Kolbe windows warm up the space. The pendant light is from Design Within Reach, and the bar stools are custom from Sean Woolsey.

The unique Onduline roofing system, which is made of cellulose fibers and bitumen, is ideal for waterproofing while also buffering the noise of falling rain. “We like this terra-cotta color,” adds Isabel. “But, at first, it scared us.”

The master bedroom was enlarged by claiming a nearby closet, creating space for a walk-in shower beneath an existing skylight.
Full-length windows illuminate the space during the day, but strategic lighting adds ambiance at night.
The three independent rooms upstairs were converted to a main suite with a walk-through closet at the center.
Custom cabinetry in the closet has grasscloth fronts. “That’s going back to the traditional midcentury vibe,” says Maziarski.
