While even functional storage areas like the mudroom receive natural light, Perilla also installed 45 handmade hanging lamps by local ceramicist Lisa Wolgast throughout the house.

The simplicity of the bathroom keeps it as low maintenance as the rest of the house.

The kitchen cabinets were made with cabinet boxes set into framing, then a primed drywall shell covered with a textural Roman Clay finish, and sealed.

Rossi repaired the firepit and installed two sets of the glass doors on this façade to overlook the lavender fields. One set is in the bedroom, to the left, and one in the living room, to the right, to become the main entrance. “I also added stones to the face of the building, taking inspiration from the Ancient Roman technique of rustication, to make the wall appear bigger and more grand, and designate it as the main entrance to the building,” says Rossi.

The designers recreated the carport as a dining area, arranging the space with a living wall, a painted brick wall, a tk ceiling with recessed lighting, a teak table and bench, and director chairs.

The home’s 2,340 square feet span the upper and lower levels, while the basement can serve as an independent ADU, home office, or guest quarters. The lower-level entry is now more comfortable, with a wide waiting area protected from the weather overhead.

The couple finished the exterior siding with shingles made of Hardie board and painted a deep purple. "We wanted an exterior cladding that was durable, low-maintenance, and relatively DIY-friendly," says Michael. "When looking at our options at the local hardware store, the fish-scale shape popped because it was unique, quirky, and not super serious—and yet could create a contemporary look through uniformly using it with woven corners and minimal detailing."

Henrybuilt's thoughtfully designed storage pieces are made to inspire organization.

This Eichler is wrapped with vertical western red cedar. One of the reasons Klopf Architecture selected this material is because of its low-VOC stain. It matches the color of the original siding, which had sadly seen better days.

Shades of ochre yellow are used on the exterior and interior of the home.

Three deceptively simple shelves made of particleboard are the house's main structural elements. By pushing any one of the units, the resident can easily reposition it; they slide left or right with a simple track system.

In this living area, a built-in Murphy bed can be pulled down to create a flexible sleeping area when needed. This Murphy bed incorporates two small bedside nooks with built-in lighting.

The renovation introduced green cement floor tile from Clé, a custom vanity with triangular brass pulls, and square wall tile that echoes the ceiling pattern.

The new bathroom features Terrazzo flooring from Concrete Collaborative and gorgeous green tiles from Heath Ceramics.
