This suite adds 400 square feet to the house. The bamboo floor was curved up the foundation wall to form the headboard. “Using bamboo and getting it to curve was definitely something that was experimental,” says Marlatt. “Sometimes experiment is not the right word. Sometimes it's just a matter of trying out ideas for the first time before I try them with my clients.”
California: Andrea Cochran
On a two-and-a-half acre landscape in Geyserville, California, Andrea Cochran found that compatibility was key. “Although not all of the plants are native to California, they are native to the Mediterranean and arid regions with similar climates,” she says. Lomandra— an Australian herb—flanks a Cor-Ten steel staircase and a walkway lined with Yosemite tan pebbles and concrete.
The living room was tucked into the front portion of the parlor floor, with a curved velvet sofa from Crate & Barrel and Terrazzo hand-knotted rug from Nordic Knots defining the space. Unexpected pattern is delivered via the Geometric Prints by Marina Ancona at 10 Grand Press, custom drapery using Imogen Heath Anni Stripe Rose, and the owner’s chair reupholstered in Cutout by HBF Textiles. In a perfect combination of the homeowners, the vintage demilune Italian brass tables were refurbished with pink mirrored plexiglass.
