The former closet was transformed by opening up the wall to the bedroom and adding a skylight above the bathtub. The light timber joinery and bright white surfaces enhance the feeling of light.

The shared second-floor bath has a black tile backsplash that references the home’s shou sugi ban siding. The oak and cold-rolled steel vanity echoes the design of the kitchen’s furniture-like island.

Morten Bo Jensen, the chief designer at Vipp—whose headquarters are located in Islands Brygge—and his partner, graphic designer Kristina May Olsen, bought a loft space in the former Viking pencil factory in 2011. They bought the loft from its previous owner, one of five investors who purchased the circa-1910 factory building, roughly a decade ago, in a very raw state.

Beaulieu reconfigured the closets so that the bed could be moved to the opposite wall. “One of my favorite things that came out of the renovation is waking up in this room, the beautiful light that comes through the curtains, seeing the shadows of the leaves, and hearing the birds,” says Beaulieu.

The new closet doors adhere to the main style of the house, with white porcelain door knobs from House of Antique Hardware.

Beaulieu made the closets a bit deeper so as to make the storage capabilities more comprehensive.

Adapting to the discovery, VFA Architecture + Design incorporates the room in the renovation of this southern Ontario retreat.

The primary bathroom also received an update.

Although it’s “veiled” from the street, the light-filled hideaway amplifies its connection to the outdoors.

One of the owners is a chef, so the kitchen, featuring HAY Revolver bar stools, naturally takes centerstage. Although it opens to the living room, the imposing butcher block ensures that cooks can be sealed away when maximum concentration is needed.

The all-new principal bathroom features marble flooring, a soaking tub, and a glass-enclosed shower.

Once headed for demolition, the storied Long Island residence by the Rockefeller Center designer is on the market for $5,999,000.
