Beautiful wood cabinetry from Shiloh Cabinetry

"Ryan likes navy, so we decided to copy that theme throughout and bring in some warm tones to complement the honey-colored wood countertops," Armstrong says. "I always love to tie in all of the colors in a space with an area rug. I found the perfect old-world-feel traditional rug with some great navy and gold tones to tie it all together."

Nestled on a secluded corner and set behind a discreet gate, the home offers a remote city escape. The wooden exterior has been treated to ensure it weathers beautifully with time.

In the main living area, full-height glass panes fully retract back, creating instant and intimate indoor-outdoor connection.

“We are in a nature sanctuary, and we are all responsible for its protection,” Gabriel says. “In this sense, we promote sustainable tourism, which has the least possible impact on the environment and encourages respect and conservation of each species.” Reused larch shingles clad the exteriors of the cabins.

Flexible indoor-outdoor living keeps the home fresh and adaptable to the number of family members staying at the home.

“The exterior paths and balconies were designed on-site,” Chrismar says. “We wanted a direct connection to the landscape.”

Perched high in the mountains of Big Bear, California, this 1973 A-frame was renovated by Courtney Poulos into a handsome getaway from Los Angeles.

The cabin’s exterior walls and roof are clad in overlapping stone plates that mimic the look of traditional wood paneling found in Western Norway. “It provides an affinity with the cabins nearby,” partner and architect Nils Ole Bae Brandtzæg explains. Solar panels cover the chimney pipe, lighting LED lamps inside.

Atelier Branco built 3,229 square feet of shelving units to house all of the client's texts, documents, and books.
