The kitchen is fitted with custom floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, a honed black Saint Laurent marble center island, and a full suite of Gaggenau appliances including a wine refrigerator and vented range hood.

The ensuite bath is located through the dressing room and comes with Carrera marble and bluestone finishes, a deep soaking tub, separate shower, and double vanity with storage.

The balance of old and new achieved in the project impressed the jury for the Australian Institute of Architects 2020 awards, which commended Bokey-Grant by saying, "JJ House is exemplary as an approach for altering and establishing a sense of individuality in the recognizable housing stock of our suburbs."

The herringbone brick floor bridges the dining room and screen porch, which are delineated by a set of custom glass-and-steel doors.

Davor and August check out the yard from the living room. “The bifold Vistalite doors allow us to open the house up completely and enjoy the fresh, warm air,” Davor says.

To further connect the indoor spaces with the New England landscape outside, glass walls in the living and dining areas slide open to eliminate the barriers between indoors and outdoors. Green slate tiles compose the flooring inside.

The outdoor space includes a fire pit.

Over 1,700 square feet of steel decking wraps around the elevated home.

New custom walnut cabinetry syncs with the rest of the built-ins throughout the home, to create a pleasing rhythm in the open plan. The backsplash is Heath Ceramics tile, and the counter is Pental Quartz. Open shelves at the rear overlook a cozy den, and allow sightlines out the new windows at the front of the home.

The exposed rafters were carried into the exterior areas, including the covered patio.

In the library, tucked beneath the renovated staircase, is a reading nook featuring cushion fabric by Sarah Morris for Maharam. The pendant is by Louis Weisdorf for Gubi, and the sconce is by Bernard Schottlander for DCW éditions.
