The Hannahs dine with Lange’s dog, Cloudy, on one of the courtyard patios that Rogers added to let tenants take advantage of Marfa’s (mostly) pleasant weather. The metal siding and roofing are from Mueller, while the paint is from Benjamin Moore.

Although The Goat Heads are mostly clad in metal, it’s the plastic panel walls at the entries that really shine. “In the evening they act like lanterns and animate the courtyards,” says Rogers. Their glow is tempered by the concrete breeze-block walls. “It was important that the units weren’t too bright—part of the beauty out here is the sky at night.”

While the new facade is swathed in black stucco, it maintains elements of the original carriage house, which is hidden within the wall. Beyond the grounding stucco base, Healey designed two white volumes to be seen above, teasing the idea that more exists beyond the entry point.

Entry & Carport

Hobart-based ceramic artist Lindsey Wherrett and Archier collabrated to create the round bathroom sink, whose tones take inspiration from the Mount Wellington undergrowth.

Though Dinesen typically does not use knotty wood, here those pieces are preserved and celebrated as a textured wall treatment. A sofa by Anderseen & Voll for Muuto sits next to a chair by OeO and Brdr. Krüger. The table is Gubi.

A custom staircase with wood risers is encased by glass panels. A wall of Henrybuilt's kitchen system adds storage to the hallway.

Each bedroom is designed to replicated a mini house, and follows the roof's pitch. A skylight lets in light. A custom unit made of white-painted MDF panels provides necessary storage.

The new addition is spanned by a sliding glass door to the kitchen, bringing in much more natural light and creating easy flow between inside and out. The owners especially appreciate how the new deck is at grade with the exterior door for a seamless transition, making the kitchen feel “a part of the garden,” says the homeowner.

A Clad Home white sofa joins a Lulu & Georgia coffee table and two cane chairs by Leanne Ford for Crate & Barrel. The artwork over the sofa was commissioned from a friend to complete the space.

"The fenced garden includes a heated saltwater pool and separate pool house with an outdoor fireplace," says the listing agent.

Angled heart pine boards over acrylic panels offer privacy while providing views of the sea, sky, and surrounding forestland.
