In the living room, open shelving offers plenty of storage and decoration. Wood-framed glass doors provide direct access to the adjacent terrace, which allows for a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

Kitchen and dining area

An asymmetrical stone fireplace is a dramatic focal point in the open plan.

Terracotta tile flooring in the kitchen is juxtaposed with Douglas fir flooring in the dining area. A skylight facilitates the inflow of natural light for the spaces.

The kitchen cabinets were made with cabinet boxes set into framing, then a primed drywall shell covered with a textural Roman Clay finish, and sealed.

Rossi did not carry the dividing wall between the bedroom and living room all the way up to the ceiling, so as not to break up the treatment up there, instead designing the wall as a custom storage and display unit.

One of Rossi’s goals was to clean up the exterior by taking away the extraneous detail, like the stone wrapping the columns and the brick trim, and painting it white.

The ADU’s bathroom, which doubles as an echo chamber for Brad’s recordings, is covered in American Universal Corp. tile, which was also used for the pool.
