The light-filled dining room—the anchor point of the “L” on the home’s first floor—overlooks lush greenery in the front yard.

The home’s kitchen—an important gathering space for any family, fictional or not—is featured prominently in the film. As Ramirez explains, the home’s interior architecture was preserved in the making of the film, but there were instances where slight modifications were made to fixtures, finishes, and furnishings for visual effect.

Existing boulders from the site were moved and used as minimalist landscaping at Casa Roca. Solar panels above were prefabricated off site so as not to disturb the surroundings.

The siting was designed so the boulders block the morning sun, yet the reverse side offers beautiful, sunset views.

Rj and Francis sourced the accordion slider from Teza Doors and installed it for a total cost of $10,000.

The home’s kitchen features dual Miele ovens, Thermador refrigerator and freezer, and Thermador induction cooktop. A feature wall clad in natural Carrara marble sits behind sliding cabinet uppers. Paola Lenti Heron counter stools in ‘verde scuro,’ coordinate with custom cabinet fronts, accented with Spinneybeck leather pulls.

In the master bathroom, custom vanities made of Baltic birch face a Soiree tub by Toto.

The kitchen’s flat-front white cabinetry seems almost to disappear into the walls, while the wood shelving and floors warm up the "gallery-like" space. An opening placed high on the wall allows the kids to peek down from the attic playroom.

By dropping the window sills to the same height as the kitchen counters, Rafael created a cleaner look and brought in more light.

A series of steel-framed glass doors and inserts partition the residence's various rooms while optimising light and flow.

“We chose to have a very big kitchen,” says Egelund. “I love it when people cook together.” The kitchen is by Egelund’s brand Vipp, and is a design that was developed more than 14 years ago. Redone with tranquility and escape in mind, the primary suite bathroom feels spa-like with a wash of Bedrodsians Magnifica Calacatta in super white.

The renovated kitchen is open, airy, and connected to the rest of the main level. Plum Projects used Bedrosians Magnifica Luxe polished white porcelain for the island, countertops, and backsplash. The black upper cabinets are made from Richlite: a durable, sustainable material made from recycled paper.

The drop ceiling was removed to make the kitchen feel larger, and Troy RLM kitchen lights were installed above it.

The Rapson birdhouse is a "modern bungalow birdhouse is fit for two families". Based on an actual sketch by midcentury architect Ralph Rapson, this birdhouse resembles Hope Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, which Rapson designed and built in 1971.
