Raj and Watts extended the fireplace column to the ceiling to highlight the room’s expansive scale, and had it coated in concrete plaster. It was important to retain the wood-burning fireplace—a rarity in the city—but “we wanted to re-clad it in a material that also spoke to the industrial past of the building,” says Raj.

Pam and Frank recently remodeled this loft in New York City to get better natural light throughout, working with firm Light and Air Architetcure. “That's exactly what we were looking for, is light and air,” says Frank. The views out the living room windows were a strong selling point for the home, despite its original 1980s-era finishes before the remodel. The glassed-in kitchen, which connects to a dry garden in the center of the home, makes use of earthy materials such as parota wood for the millwork, black granite with leather finish for the countertops, and gray cantera stone floors. The pendants are by David Pompa, while the refrigerator is from Whirlpool and the dishwasher from LG.
