It was important, says Kaplan, to define the kitchen area with the “heavy horizontal lid” that runs along the top of the windows. The custom stove hood echoes the lines of the original wainscot.

Bright Designlab designed the custom vanity, fabricated by Maple Key. The wallpaper is by Portland studio Makelike, and the pink tap is Fantini.

The floor has tile from Arto Ceramic via the Portland-based Tempest Tileworks, with a rug from Kush Rugs. A sculptural Bofred floor lamp sits with a Montauk sofa and coffee table by Michael Robbins.

Resembling a beach bungalow, the green-painted house sits on a spacious, tree-filled lot.

Aptly named “The Open Corner House,” the rear of the home is rotated 90 degrees, with each perpendicular exposure opening up to views of mature trees, and the all-important patio and pool area. “This is seen over and over again in the film, as the characters are often shown gazing into nature, playing outside, or gathering in covered outdoor areas,” says Ramirez.

Designed by The Up Studio, this newly constructed home on the North Shore of Long Island is the setting for Netflix’s “Leave the World Behind.” Based on the bestselling novel by Rumaan Alam, the film stars Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, Myha’la, and Kevin Bacon.

The one element the couple wanted to emulate from their time living in California was the ability to add in more opportunities for indoor/outdoor living. “Living in Manhattan Beach, we would be obsessed about some of the houses on the strand near the beach that would just have these massive rooftop decks,” says Derek. “Since this lot offers beautiful mountain views, the rooftop deck is a great way to be outside and maximize those views.”

The former sunroom, now a guest room, has a 1970s armchair by Bruno Rey.

A new deck made of garapa, a sustainable, rot-resistant tropical wood, has a woodburning hot tub from Goodland.

The Bauhaus bathroom is named for the tubular pattern on the floor tile.

Inside the waffle front door, a common feature of Deck Houses, are an Artek Tea Trolley 900 by Alvar Aalto with a ceramic vase by Femme Sole and Home Union.

The basement-level family room connects with a guest bedroom that features a painting by Marleigh Culver.

The kitchen features custom-lacquered cabinets with white oak handles and, in lieu of upper cabinets, a wall niche to display dishes.
