The home’s walls are clad in Oregon white oak reclaimed from a dismantled barn on the property. Jessica Helgerson chose to paint them white to create a bright, airy look, but she left the kitchen wall au naturel for a visual pop. With storage at a premium, the kitchen needed ample cabinetry as well as some ingenious solutions—including a pull-out cabinet hidden in one half of the range hood. A vintage cabinet on the left wall provides open storage for everyday dishes.

The Lily Pad is a 280-square-foot shipping container home located near Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio.

The Colemans opted for mint-green cabinetry with gold hardware and matte-black Richlite counters in the cedar-wrapped kitchen.

Metallic blue glass walls, an option for the front facade, reflect the cabin's landscape or backyard setting and add interest and wonder.

Designed by Dean/Wolf Architects, the home gently curves to capture views of the water, land, and sky.

Hope replaced the upper wood cabinets with open shelving and painted the lower cabinets a shade of gray-green. Beneath the linoleum were wood floors that the designer refinished.

The home is located in Belvedere, a community consisting of two islands and a lagoon in Marin County, California.

The kitchen features organic materials, such as wood and leather, with a matte-white quartz counter. "We wanted the space to feel uniquely warm and lived-in while achieving some modern aesthetic," says Tarah.

The organic placement of the windows echoes the knots on the trunks of the surrounding trees.

“The wall's latticed steelwork was hand-bathed in acid over many months to achieve its uniquely rich patina, as was the floor-to-ceiling, sculptural steel tower opposite with built-in wood burning pizza oven at its base,” says the listing agent.

This kitchen garden cleverly uses Borealis wall in Hazelnut Brandy as a long-lasting, retaining wall for raised garden beds, bringing the cottage-garden charm of timber without the need to worry about maintenance or everyday wear-and-tear. The clearly zoned pathways between the beds allow room for a cafe table and chairs.

At night, a sunken fire pit at one end of the pool—defined by Techo-Bloc Industria Triangle pavers in Greyed Nickel, Shale Grey, and Onyx Black—creates a relaxed gathering space. The dividing wall between the pool and fire pit has been cleverly designed to be used as a swim-up bar during the day, and a fireside bar at night. Strategically placed lighting around the pool area and the edges of the fire pit further bring the space to life at night, making it dance with light and fire.

Despite the small footprint, the units feel larger than 400 or 500 square feet, with ample storage and spacious bathrooms.
