A folding bench chair pulls out to be extra table seating — though the table itself is mobile, too, able to be shifted to a second wall mount to act as a work space when Kyle craves a change of scenery.

The home is a study in how to receive light throughout the day—from sunrise to sunset. The master bedroom’s windows frame the sunrise and welcome in morning light.

Throughout the studio, custom display units in muted colors showcase various iterations of Layer-designed products.

Layer’s Benjamin Hubert sits at the conference table in his East London studio. The 5,000- square-foot space is located in Hackney, where furniture-making tradition mingles with fashion design, high tech, and urban grit.

"Each site visit would result in a joyous bushwhack through the thick rhododendron forest to the back kettle ponds," Mac says. "After, we would walk out to the front meadow [to] get a sense of how to engage the house with the landscape and create a symbiotic relationship between the two."

The loft bedroom is nestled under the sloping roof.

“There’s no TV here, no distractions. It’s a kind of therapy,” says Eivind.

In the living area, floor-to-ceiling windows by Schüco frame a Gyrofocus suspended rotating fireplace by Focus. At night, a crackling fire appears to hover in the dark.
