The new, public zone of the house includes the living and dining area, which opens to the kitchen. A set of French doors provides access to the new patio, where the family eats dinner most nights. A set of vintage bentwood Thonet chairs subtly echoes the architectural curves throughout the house.

A neutral palette doesn't have to be boring. Architectural arches and 12-inch Saltillo Hex tile feel fresh and bright thanks to copious amounts of natural light coming in from new skylights in the kitchen. “I wanted you to come into a place that was inviting, but with a muted warmth,” says Kara of the decision to immerse the dining room in Farrow & Ball’s Green Smoke, including walls, ceiling, cabinetry, and fireplace, the latter with a relocated mantel. The table is a 17th C. Spanish Walnut Trestle Rectangular Dining Table via Restoration Hardware, surrounded by Ceremonie Green Mohair dining chairs by Athena Calderone, from Crate&Barrel. The Tambor Buffet, beneath windows that Seamus relocated from elsewhere in the house, is from Anthropologie.

Landscape designers Mary Lange and Molly Funk transformed the yard with drought-tolerant plants. The walkway decking is from Kebony kebony, the Seaspray paint from Benjamin Moore, and the front door hardware from Emtek.
