The slim, black frame on the Marvin windows in the bedroom are visually unobtrusive and keep the focus on the view.

The new master bedroom includes a bay window protruding outward from the original facade, making a window seat that frames a view of shore pines and the dunes.

One big budget-saver was eliminating the drywall and embracing the raw plywood finish (plus a light stain).

The previous galley-style kitchen was dark and closed off from the rest of the house. For the remodel, Sammie requested high ceilings, no upper cabinets, and U-shaped drawers. Simple white-painted upper shelves display a collection of ceramic dishes.

In the kids’ bath, green hexagon tile from Heath Ceramics is a lovely backdrop for the walnut vanity.

Cutler designed the window in the couple’s bedroom to extend below floor level. “It’s almost like you can walk right into the view,” he says. The platform bed is from West Elm.

The door opens directly into the main living space, where a Room & Board sofa joins a chair and ottoman from West Elm. The wood-burning stove is from Morsø.

The bathroom is a “compromise” for the couple, as Michelle didn’t want tile, and Augustin preferred the space to have a darker wall finish. They agreed to ensconce it in charcoal-colored plaster. The stools are by River Valadez.

Glo European thermally broken aluminum dual-pane windows, shown here in the master bedroom, give the couple a corner view over the treetops without compromising the building envelope, and can be opened in a variety of configurations.

Custom oak cabinetry and marble counters and backsplash define the small kitchen in the open plan. The rug is by Armadillo & Co.

Tapping his experience in hotel design, Conrad underlit the deck so that it appears to float. The couple bought the planters from the House of St. Clair moving sale in Austin. The siding is painted in Sherwin-Williams' Urbane Bronze.

The Rose Coast Residence, illuminated at dusk, makes an impactful contribution to the unique coastal landscape, bravely looking towards the future.

“Opening the house to the southwest also gave the best chance of hearing the ocean noises in the house at night,” says Sabbeth. A Malm Firedrum 3 fireplace anchors the corner, with a cream Piero Lissoni sofa, coffee table by Andrianna Shamaris and leather Cassina chairs placed before it.

Custom oak cabinetry defines the kitchen from the adjacent dining room. Terra cotta toned grout in the Bedrosian ‘Makoto’ tile backsplash is a hint of color, alongside the Ago “Kirkus” Chandelier in Terra Cotta above the table. A folding glass door now opens to the new exterior deck.

The Alerce shingles change color when it rains, moving from red to grey. “It’s alive,” says Marambio.
