White oak storage wraps the kitchen, which is tucked under the lower ceiling, to create a more cozy spot that’s still connected to the living areas. “It's such a large space,” Erling says of the great room. “It's nice to be more intimate in the kitchen zone.” The counters are Gascogne blue limestone.

There’s a contemporary induction cooktop, fridge, and wall oven by Dacor. Viso counter stools by Muuto pull up to the island, embellished by a Linear pendant light by Kuzco above.

"In some ways the strongest attributes of the house are probably the outside spaces,” says Court. The original cedar deck was replaced with Kebony decking that wraps around a century-old cherry tree. A pair of Andy rockers from Mamagreen face an ottoman by Kenneth Cobonpue. The accordion doors are a NanaWall SL-60 system that allows the main room of the guesthouse to open completely to the deck.

Optical glass, framed in matte black, features in both the shower screen and the circular portal window which adjoins the kitchen. It's a quirky touch that allows light to flow into the interior bathroom space.

The upstairs ensuite bathroom is covered in orange tiles. All the tiles used in the bathrooms, kitchen, and service area are by Classic Ceramics.

The firm swapped the door orientation and painted it sage green. They also preserved the surrounding lites to keep the natural light flowing inside. The original wall paneling on the right was painted a bright white, and new hooks corral coats.

The firm kept some original details, including wooden cabinets in the kitchen, while replicating others—such as the vintage-style fridge that is similar to the original one seen in photos from the ’50s.
