"All of the tones are gray, green, or muted,” adds Cecily. “We were thinking of a cloudy, calm, ethereal aesthetic.”
The single-family residence is located on a pristine .81-acre lot in Agoura Hills, California—just 15 miles north from Malibu and 35 miles northwest of Downtown Los Angeles. It was designed by Ellis David Gelman in 2006 and has been further modernized by its current owners.
Local woodworkers made the chairs in the living room. Claudio and Aranza lined up nine blocks of wood from nearby construction sites to create an ad hoc coffee table. The enclosed portions of the house have massive louvered sliders, also built by local carpenters.

Along the front of the home, tiered landscape sections are bordered by panels of COR-TEN steel, with a central walkway and staircase leading up to the main entrance. The glassy front facade provides multiple vantage points for enjoying views of the active neighborhood.
