As the most common type of kitchen sink, the top-mount sink is installed by inserting the sink into a pre-cut hole in the countertop. The wide rim around the sink supports it on top of the countertop, and is then caulked in place with silicone for a water-tight fit.

In addition to the private backyard, the home also includes spacious rooftop that captures striking city views.

Each of the four bedrooms feature extensive windows, allowing for ample natural light.

“We chose to have a very big kitchen,” says Egelund. “I love it when people cook together.” The kitchen is by Egelund’s brand Vipp, and is a design that was developed more than 14 years ago. The couple have the same kitchen in black in their Copenhagen apartment but decided that the warm gray color was better suited to the coastal setting of the summer house.

In the study, a metallic-silver bubble lamp from Brooklyn Vintage sits on an Ikea dresser that Lizzy painted with bright, geometric patterns. The Checkmate Shag Rug is from Aelfie. The vintage fabric palm tree sculpture—visible in the mirror’s reflection—is from The Mod Weekend.

By coincidence, the stairs leading up to Lizzy’s apartment were already painted in bright colors, but they serve as an excellent lead-in to the magic that lies beyond. “I’m an aggressive colorist,” she says.

This particular Marabout House was commissioned by the French energy company in 1972 for temporary housing. It stood on a property in Avignon before being acquired and restored by Cividano.

Be selective about splurging. One of the hardest, yet potentially most satisfying, parts of staying on budget is learning where to save and where to splurge. There are certain items or pieces that are worthy of spending more on, whether it’s a sofa that will last you a decade or kitchen countertops that will really help improve the value of your home. Your contractor or other design professional can advise you on locations or pieces where a higher-quality product is important versus something more basic.
