Stainless-steel mesh sits in front of structural insulated panels (SIPs) fixed within the wall panels.

The family wanted a new structure that would provide coverage for their vehicles, but also support a multi-purpose family room and workspace. Personalizing this broad goal to suit their specific interests and activities is what helped take this project somewhere special.

Low-cost, durable fiber cement board rainscreen panels clad the exterior.

T+E+A+M completed Northwood ADU in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in late summer 2021.

The renovation of the existing garage resulted in an ADU that was delightfully cheerful, inside and out, with a design that emphasized natural daylight through carefully-selected finishes and deliberately-placed windows.

With balconies on every side, there are plenty of cozy spots to observe the nature in the park next door.
