This voluminous cabin in Austin, Quebec, has a sharply pitched roof and a bright and lofty interior that strikes surprising contrast to its austere, angular exterior.

To take advantage of the astounding views that extend beyond the Strait of Georgia to the cityscape of downtown Vancouver, Trim Studio oriented the home so that it faces northeast.

The architects situated the cabin between two old-growth oak trees so as not to disrupt the natural features of the site.

A rotating wood stove in the center of the open-concept living and dining area provides 360-degree access to the fire.

Inside, a smart mix of rustic and contemporary elements make for a dynamic space: white-stained pine walls, expansive windows, black accents, and minimalist furniture.

Inside Eugene and Claire’s home, an expansive sliding glass door connects their living spaces to the farm, creating a literal farm-to-table experience.

The large kitchen is a space for the family to gather, with a stone-look porcelain benchtop and splashback from Stone Tile. “The clients wanted the stone in the kitchen to feel natural rather than dramatic,” says architect Trevor Wallace. “It's large format porcelain, though, as I don’t think they would have been able to handle the level of patina that would have developed on a natural stone when cooking with children!”
