The Risoms used the semi-custom Space Theory for their kitchen design, and Tom and carpenter Chris Mascola installed the pre-assembled pieces in place. Space Theory was founded in 2019 by kitchen design company Henrybuilt.

The main living area of the home is filled with Risom pieces Tom inherited from his father over his lifetime. The travertine coffee table with the geometric base was never produced.  The lone non-Risom piece is the Swan chair by Arne Jacobsen.

A 305-square foot  addition on the south side of the cabin accommodates a dining area complete with sliders to the lake. The cabin is 2,665 square feet, including the new roof deck atop the addition. New, large windows  afford gracious views of the lake from the living room and primary suite.

A custom-colored concrete sink with integrated ledge completes the powder room under the stairs, which previously contained just a toilet. The den (pictured at the top of the stairs), guest room, bunk rooms, and family bath are a half flight up from the main level.

Local artist John Bisbee created a decorative screen out of nails for the end of the base cabinet. Stuart built the drawers using traditional wood-on-wood slides and proportionally spaced dovetails, which operate differently in summer and winter. “Those idiosyncrasies effect the way you interact with it,” Stuart notes. “The kitchen is experiential in that way.”
