Designer Claire Thomas teams up with cinematographer Yayo Ahumada to turn a Yucca Valley ranch home into a vibrant retreat.
The multicolored cushions were designed by Acuña and fabricated by Viviana Cortes.
The home's archetypal form rises from the windswept caatinga, a vast stretch of flat, semiarid land where the northeastern tip of the country juts into the Atlantic.
The oak cabinet in the living room was another secondhand find. “It had the exact measurements of the wall,” says Annemie. “We just needed to hang it.” The throw blanket is from La Femme Garniture while the pillows and pendants are custom.

The O-asis house is set on an elongated 1.7-acre site on a horse property area of Phoenix, north of Piestewa Peak within the Phoenix Mountain Preserve.
Another view of the living area shows a built-in bench that wraps around a corner. Cob is a structural material usually made by combining sand, clay, and straw together to form a mixture that is both insulating and durable once cured.
The residents decided to build with a limited set of sustainable materials; for the facades, that meant wood, bamboo, or cork.
