In Keith’s eyes, the walls of louvers around the living room help marry the concrete plinth, wood kitchen block, and pool. “It was the most difficult thing formally to resolve, because you have all these pieces and have to figure out how to best connect them,” he says.

“Indah feels immense pride, especially for the late structural addition she hugs and calls her zigzag column,” Kathryn says. “We faceted it in the vein of one of our favorite sculptors, Constantin Brâncusi.”

The primary bedroom, located on the upper level, presents a soothing sanctuary, complete with an original brick fireplace and private terrace.

The backsplash is covered in Clé Tile, and the counters are Carrara marble.

The Weltys started construction by having the structure framed out but allowed themselves time to sort through unresolved areas and select finishes. After they spent a year and eight months manipulating materials and playing with textures, their vision finally came together.
