The bookshelves in the living room allow for privacy as well as openness to the front yard for events. The light above the dining table is a Girlande ceiling light from Areti.

Antonio designed thin shelves with hinged storage boxes that do double duty as structural elements. "It's a play between solid and void," he says about the open and closed design.

The kitchen features bleached red oak storage cabinets custom-made by L&Z Specialties, Inc. The dining table is from Areti, paired with Eero Saarinen Tulip chairs from the client's collection, and a distinctive mobile from Gam Fratesi adds a commanding accent.

Another sleeping area features double bunk beds.

The headboard is a custom fabrication from a live oak felled on the property, made by DeVos Custom Woodworking and Jobe Fabrications and in collaboration with JCA. The headboard “brings so much texture and life into this tiny room,” says Corral. Custom steel shelves are poised below, with a sconce from Serena and Lily mounted atop.

They kept the third child's room simple so that he can grow into it — there's space for a desk one day.

One of the largest construction challenges was the plumbing in the showers. "After our bathrooms were finally completed, we found water leakage coming out the base of both the showers," says Elaine. "Nothing seemed to solve the problem. It turned out it was a faulty plumbing job, so we had to open up the showers, fix the plumbing, and redo all the tadelakt." This set their timeline back by months.
