The prominent Los Angeles modernist designed the post-and-beam residence—dubbed the Kubly House—for the original owners in Pasadena, California.

Varying hues of purple and green find their way into the home’s striking powder room, a new addition on the first floor. Purple veining in the marble vanity fluidly complements the floor tile’s olive tones.

Riffing off local traditional pasta tile, Marc designed custom cement floor tiles with more contemporary patterns. They were manufactured by Mérida company Mosaicos Dzununcán.

The glassed-in kitchen, which connects to a dry garden in the center of the home, makes use of earthy materials such as parota wood for the millwork, black granite with leather finish for the countertops, and gray cantera stone floors. The pendants are by David Pompa, while the refrigerator is from Whirlpool and the dishwasher from LG.

In the primary suite, a walk-in closet leads to a moody bathroom with a concrete sink.
