Initially, Tarah had wanted a backwoods-style path that felt less refined and more rugged. Drew, however, proposed a clean path that could be shoveled and provide greater clarity for guests. "In the end, Drew won, and I’m not mad about it," says Tarah. "It’s not as charming as I would have liked, but it’s very functional and so easy to plow during our cold, snowy seasons. We added some really lovely path lighting to give it a nice ambient evening glow."
Sherry and John made a coffee table out of cutoffs from the home’s timber-frame posts. But the edges of the wood tabletop shrank and curled upward, only to flatten out again later. The couple decided to screw down the perimeter of the table, for consistency’s sake. “We figured it would crack, which it did,” says Sherry, “so now we have an earthquake-motif coffee table.”
The apartment’s most striking feature is a custom wall and ceiling mural by Calico Wallpaper, inspired by Vancouver’s Stanley Park. The Asher bed is by Rove Concepts, the sconces are Pearl Modern Wall Sculpture by Cedar & Moss, and the bedside tables are from Crate & Barrel. A mohair throw by Bronte Moon falls across Frette linens.

![Before: The original living room was very traditional with a wood stove that felt too large for the space. The previous owner had tried to open up a wall, but it had been shoddily executed. "It was a deductive process of stripping [things] back to see what was actually needed," says Lauren.](https://images2.dwell.com/photos/6531268541891756032/6732120899038961664/original.jpg?auto=format&q=35&w=160)
