Mudroom cabinetry creates consistency with the rest of the house.

The shared kids’ bath features a tile terrazzo floor, soaking tub, and Brodware taps. The clerestory window lets in northern light without compromising privacy.

The couple installed a custom concrete wash basin in the hallway—a space-saving technique inspired by the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs.

An enclosed shower is located in the central core. Built-in towel bars match the wood tone of the interior cladding, maintaining the minimal color palette.

The custom white oak vanity was given the same treatment as the storage in the family room.

The freestanding tub was oriented precisely so that the bather can enjoy maximum forest views during a soak.

The redesign opened up sections of the ceiling and removed sections of the existing walls to get light to flow through. There’s minimal trim throughout, so no means to hide imperfections. It was tricky, says Berg, to knit it all back together seamlessly, but the team succeeded, as is seen in this detailed shot of the ceiling at the entrance.

Now, a new flagstone walkway borders the preserved planter running alongside the wall. A custom pivot door with the semi-circular oak knob foreshadows the circular cut-out on the wall inside, and Berg added a quadrilateral-shaped window above the door that accentuates the ceiling angle.

For the redesign, they recovered the exterior in stucco and painted it black for more consistency. “We wanted the exterior to really marry the lot in a way,” says Blake. “We wanted it to be unique, but to also really compliment all of the trees and open space.”

A custom white oak vanity has a blue limestone counter, just like the kitchen, and a skylight brightens the room. “Throughout the day, natural light flows through the large window openings and skylights, creating a never-ending shadow play,” says Berg.

In the bathrooms, Lunt paired classic midcentury finishes (like terrazzo and wood) with fresh fixtures and lights.

Cover Architecture and EEK Studio designed the custom vanity, which was fabricated by Hardwood Habitat. The wood door conceals the toilet room, while a pocket door separates the bathroom from the bedroom. The terrazzo floor tile is from Cle Tile.
