Consisting of three prefabricated units in West Seattle on a 5,000 square-foot lot, the Genesee Townhomes—by Method Homes and Chris Pardo Design—from 1,250-1,400 square feet, each with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms.

Located in Ojochal, Costa Rica, at the edge of a large tropical rain forest, the multi-disciplinary firm of A-01 (A Company / A Foundation) designed a prefabricated home that would respond to its local environment by exclusively using passive climate control.

Available to rent on Airbnb, the two-bedroom prefab house as a prototype for their pre-engineered IT House series and made an appearance in Dwell Magazine’s November 2008 issue.

The industrial aesthetic can be found throughout the three-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom home. It rests on an acre lot surrounded by the best of Mother Nature with breathtaking views of the mountains and a peek of the ocean and the Channel Islands. In fact, the residence was given a Merit Award in the Innovative Design in Engineering and Architecture with Structural Steel (IDEAS2) program for sustainable design and the use of exposed structural steel by The American Institute of Steel Construction. Why? Because the structural steel used is manufactured mostly from scrap metal. That makes it a green material because it doesn't generate as much construction waste as a wood-frame structure.

Concrete and weathered steel form the home’s low-profile western facade, anchoring it to the desert.

4,500 cubic yards of concrete, and over 200 pieces of glass were used in the construction of the home, which took four years to complete.

Mary and Kundan Bhullar built a shipshape country escape that sits lightly on the land in the Aravalli hills near Gurgaon, India.

The home enjoys a connection with the surrounding landscape with views from every room that invite the 100-acre site into the interior. “The framed views from each room are a source of pride for us,” says architect Meelena Oleksiuk Turkel. “They illustrate the way in which we design for a specific site, bringing the outdoors into the home and making the most of what the homeowners love about their land.”
