The architects kept the fixture layout to save on budget, swapping in a Duravit tub and toilet with lavatory fixture, tub filler and shower head and controls by DornBracht.

Lawler's mom wanted an all-white kitchen, and he delivered with Caesarstone countertops in Blizzard alongside Venice terrazzo tile from Concrete Collaborative. A Mags Sofa and 82 Armchairs from Hay sit in the living room.

In the primary bathroom, the skylight aligns perfectly with the floating vanity below, letting in an abundance of natural daylight and creating geometric shadows on the walls.

Inside the 1,930-square-foot structure, which is their full-time residence, con-crete floors and pale woods mimic the outdoor palette. A sliding glass wall from Fleetwood opens to an expansive patio and perfect sunset views.

In the living area, floor-to-ceiling windows by Schüco frame a Gyrofocus suspended rotating fireplace by Focus. At night, a crackling fire appears to hover in the dark.

The slats on the window offer solar protection and privacy. “Before the slats were installed, it really felt like you were just living on the street,” says Vanbesien.

“There is an enormous amount of glass here,” laughs Vanbesien—so much so that the design team struggled to find enough wall space to mount the heat pump.

“Entering the house feels remarkably like stepping aboard a vessel,” says homeowner Pedro Logiodice. “You cross a bridge-like passage, and once inside, the sensation is of being a bird soaring above the valley.”

Arquipélago Arquitetos and Mariana Caires designed this timber home hugging the hillside in the Bocaina countryside region of Brazil.

One of the main sustainable features of the home is its small size. “It’s a very small house with good insulation and natural ventilation,” says architect Line Solgaard. “Keeping the building small is one of the most important considerations for sustainability.”
