The apartment has a Japanese-style tea room with tatami and shoji screens.

Set in a 19th-century Westend building, the flat is a minimalist oasis with shoji screens, tatami floors, and soothing neutral tones.

Joshua uses a signed Tizio Lamp by Richard Sapper both for work and relaxation. “I love being able to pull it from my desk all the way over my bed,” he says. “That’s something I could only do in a room this small.”

The home’s single bathroom contains a vanity and mirror fabricated from old-growth redwood. The sink is cast concrete, and the faucet is from California Faucets. The inset wall shelf features a Japanese gouge texture done by Nick.

Ori's Pocket Closet is installed on a robotic rail. It opens and closes using a built-in controller, a smartphone, or voice control.

Textiles from St. Frank accent the all-pink guest room.

For the combination table and workstation, Garneau sourced the hydraulic hardware from Linak. The cooktop and oven are from Smeg, and the low-flow faucet is from KWC Livello. Equipped with Hettich hardware, the backsplash rolls up to reveal a spice rack.

Adjustable legs, inspired by the pocketknife’s slender housing for tookpicks and tweezers, elevate the Convertible Table from coffee table to desk height. A metal panel that rises from the walnut surfaces reveals a one-and-a-half-inch-deep compartment that acts as a drafting board.

By turning the Stepladder Chair upside down and unfastening a pair of aged leather straps, users get three solid steel steps for reaching high shelves.

The extendable dining table is custom designed by Sugarhouse and fabricated by Elwood Design Co. The chairs are vintage Egon Eiermann purchased from Morentz Gallery, and the over table lights are Bert Frank.

The floors are white oak with a walnut inlay, to nod to the prewar era of the building.
