The new addition's laundry area and powder room are awash in shades of blue. Wall paint was color-matched to Fireclay Tile's Blue Velvet tile, and blue grout in a lighter shade corresponds to the all-over color of the powder room.

There’s more concealed storage in the bathroom, this time clad in wooden tile so it blends in with the wall treatment. The flooring is terrazzo tile.

Friday wanted to make the powder room distinctive, and she chose a navy lime wash paint from Color Atelier to do so. A Stone Forrest marble vanity and Highgate Waterworks faucet sit under a vintage pendant.

A splash of dark green paint in the sleeping nook introduces an old world drama to the space. The paint color is Billiard Green from Sherwin Williams. The crochet pendant is from World Market, and the brass bull was an eBay find. The couple's dog Waylon lounges in the pull-out dog bed drawer.

The only transitional area in the home is this small hallway, which doubles as storage and laundry room. The primary suite is at the end, and the stairs lead to a loft for the children.

Brian and Melissa chose a light color palette—pale wood and white paint—punctuating it with moments of color from art, furniture, and, in the case of the kitchen, dark tile. Ceramic dishes and woven artisan baskets are useful and beautiful.

The oak countertops in the kitchen are the same as the flooring.

Sited parallel to each other, the two autonomous bedroom cabins frame perspectival views of the surrounding landscape. Exteriors of all three structures feature mitered corners and cross-laminated timber panels, all nailed by hand.

The room is outfitted with IKEA cabinets, an oven by Miele and a cooktop by Gaggenau.

Storage was vital for this young family, and the design team incorporated it wherever they could. Though the space is relatively compact, smartly programmed walls of cabinetry—like the one that runs through the hallway room from a work station to the main bedroom—make it simple to keep clutter out of sight.

Not every client-designer relationship would have thrived under such extreme circumstances, but Dovey credits Sarah and Ben’s attitude for the project’s success. “They were observant and thoughtful, and really took the time to ask all the right questions,” says Dovey. “In the end, it went so well just because of the great relationships.”
