Frank Lloyd Wright protégé Jim Fox used wood, glass and stone to build the monumental residence in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The house is clad with shou sugi ban-treated cedar siding.
The fireplace is a salute to midcentury-modern design. Brick is used both here in the living room and in the den.
The custom kitchen millwork is designed by reBuild Workshop, and fabricated by Custom Lotus, with quartzite counters. The high stools in white oak are by Space Copenhagen.
Designed by Brian MacKay-Lyons, the property includes a guesthouse, a hot tub, and a prime position on the tip of a peninsula.
The design team “poked fun” at the homeowner for her unusual request, but they’ve since recommended bathroom refrigerators to other clients.
