The home’s namesake is a 26-foot-tall shade structure called a ramada. The name derives from the Spanish word for ‘branches,’ and it’s a regional construction technique mastered by the Tohono O'odha tribe. A total of 20 Douglas fir telephone poles support the 2 x 4 lattice canopy, which provides shade and casts dramatic shadows across the white, mortar-washed slump blocks.

Bespoke inbuilt solutions, such as the cut-out cabinetry knobs, enhance the minimalist flair.

The in-ground pool is placed between the primary bedroom and the casita.

The kitchen received new walnut flooring that echoed the millwork in the family room. The custom cabinetry is a mix of hickory and oak painted a neutral gray. The dark countertops are Pietra de Cardoza.

Button added a fresh coat of white paint to the exterior, along with a new entry patio with palms and cacti.

“We love the hot tub, and usually try to jump in it every afternoon,” says Leah. “In the warmer months, we don’t heat it, and the kids use it as a post-beach pool and love to play in it for hours.”

A new outdoor deck addition, which meets the local council’s requirements for site coverage, was built in the rear garden.

The kitchen cabinets were made with cabinet boxes set into framing, then a primed drywall shell covered with a textural Roman Clay finish, and sealed.

The kitchen island and cabinets at this Melbourne renovation are made of recycled timber, taking cue from the wooden bookcase that designer Kim Kneipp installed during the home’s first restyling.

Inside, dappled light falls on a clay-finished wall and green and pink cabinets from Pluck. The colors “reflect a modern, pastel interpretation of a Victorian aesthetic,” says Wilkes.

The chairs are from Hay, the Cast Pendant is by Tom Chung & Jordan Murphy with Menu, and the TE070 countertops are from Diespeker.
